I promised myself at the start of this year-long photo journal at Temple Newsam Park that I wouldn’t just spend my time grumbling about the city council and how they could do so much more with ‘the park’. It is a great facility that manages to meet the needs of the many different users.
The fence shown in today’s photo though I just don’t understand. I can’t remember when it first appeared but it ruins what must be one of the finest lawned areas in front of a stately home in the UK. Designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 18th century, the woodland and parkland after the house are surely Temple Newsams best feature.
There are lots of empty fields around the estate for the animals from the rare breeds farm to graze on. This area if continued as lawn from the house all the way to the Menagerie Ponds area would be stunning.
