Todays photo from ‘the park’ was taken a few days ago on a stroll through the vegetable gardens at Temple Newsam. I think this is sweetcorn growing against the outer wall of the walled gardens. Gardening as I have discovered in recent years is a twelve month hobby/occupation with something every month to do or prepare for.
I used to get so fed up in the winter months with the dark and cold but now understand this amazing cycle a little better. I have learnt to take pleasure from simple tasks such as clearing and preparing for the winter knowing that in no time at all bulbs will be showing through.
In truth the climate here in the UK is excellent just one long wet and mild season (most of the time). A little island in the North Atlantic warmed by the gulf stream. I really don’t know why we moan about the weather so much, from the last trees to lose their leaves to the first ones to gain them again is what? 12 weeks!
