I think it would be true to say I am pretty much a townie who likes days out in the countryside so foraging for my supper is not something I have to do too often.
However as a child Blackberry picking at this time of year was a great tradition when we would go out armed with pots and pans, climbing walls and fences to reach the most inaccessible places to gather these tasty little fruits. Then rushing home and waiting expectantly while our mothers baked pies and crumbles for desert that night.
My rambles around ‘the park’ have clearly stirred these memories as today we decided to go Blackberry picking. It just didn’t seem as arduous or to take as long as in childhood but the results were just as plentiful. I have memories of spending entire afternoons at it, goodness knows how many Blackberries we ate or took home. I am though looking forward to the Blackberry and Apple pie I have been promised tomorrow night for desert.
The location of this hoard of luscious fruits is an out-of-the-way spot on the eastern fringes of Temple Newsam that I hope to return to a few more before September is out!
I did try to get the dog to pose sitting with the tub but she just kept diving in nose first and eating them!
