My photo today is tinged with a little sadness as I got the first rumour from a local politician on twitter that more new homes will be built in the Colton area of Leeds.
There is a large swathe of land between Colton and ‘the park’ and walking in the area it is pretty obvious that one day it will be full of houses. It would be a scandal, cities need parks and open spaces the Victorian knew it and left wonderful legacies across our land. Today’s photo is from the heart of Temple Newam near the house but many of the images featured this year on ‘the park’ are from the area around Colton.
This park is one of the top natural resources available to the residents of Leeds and should be protected at all costs as should the land around it. Empty fields should if not already, be brought under local authority control and new woodland planted for future generations.
Will this happen no, will there be more homes and development around Temple Newsam Park. Yes of course politics and money will ensure it happens.
